How do I contact USCIS if I need to speak to someone?
The main USCIS Contact Center can be reached at 1-800-375-5283 (TTY: 1-800-767-1833), available during standard business hours on weekdays.
A few things worth knowing before you call:
- Have your receipt number ready — most inquiries require it
- If your case is still within its normal processing time for its form type, USCIS representatives generally can't do much beyond confirming what you can already see in the online case status tool
- For cases outside normal processing time, you can submit a case inquiry either by phone or online through your myUSCIS account
- Some people also find it faster to reach out to their U.S. Representative or Senator's office for casework help on a stuck case — congressional offices have dedicated liaisons with USCIS for exactly this purpose
Repeated, frequent contact doesn't speed up processing and can add unnecessary stress — one well-documented inquiry, made at the right time, is generally more effective than many anxious calls.
This is general information, not legal advice. For anything specific or unusual about your case, a licensed immigration attorney can advise on your situation directly.
