Is it bad to follow up too much with USCIS or the embassy?

Occasional, reasonable follow-up (a formal case inquiry, not repeated calls) is fine and sometimes useful. What I've seen backfire is aggressive or frequent contact — it doesn't speed up your case, and it can make an already stressful wait feel even more consuming. One well-timed inquiry beats ten anxious ones.
